Fast Five
Arthur
Although this was a remake of the original 1981 Dudely Morre Classic, Russell Brand gives this movie the comic touch that just wasnt there with Dudely Moore. We end up likeing the incredibely talented Rusell Brand as he gives us a sense of Aurthers life problems which dont seem to bad. !!!!!.
Plot:
A boozy play boy by the name of Arthur sets to inheret a fortune and doesnt have a worry in the world untill he realizes that he is presented with the ultimatum of being forced to marry someone that he has no feelings for. Instead his mum planes to Set him up with heiress Susan Johnson played by Jennifer Garner. However Arthur ends up falling in love with Namoi Quinn played by Greta Gerwig and turns to his nanny Hobson played by Helen Mirren when he is made to pick between the ultimate desires love and money.
Overall this is a feel good movie that could do with a better plot however the quality of the supporting actress Helen Mirren and the side character known as Bitterman along with the very Funny Russell Brand makes this an incredibly funny movie. Its definately worth a watch.
The Little Blue Guys Are Coming.....
Hank Azaria as Gargamel |
The Social Network.... WOW!
Who would have guessed that a movie about a website could be so amazingly entertaining?!
Its all shot as a flashback to evidence in the lawsuits against Facebook creator Mark Zuckerburg. From Hacking into Harvard's network, right up to Facebook's head office, this movie will have you glued to the screen. Even those who have never actually used Facebook are raving about it. Right from the get go your made to feel like Mark is a bit of a (direct quote) "arsehole" but you've gotta admit the kid has talent and so does the actor who plays him Jesse Eisenberg.
Now coming from a girl who used to have "like THE worlds biggest crush" on Justin Timberlake I may sound a little biased when I say he steals the show, but he really does. Playing Sean Parker the inventor of Napster/ mentor to Mark Zuckerburg Justin is awesome! Even if his only contribution to Facebook was "drop the THE. Its cleaner".
Over all The Social Network will leave you wishing you had done something a little more productive with your time other than sitting on Facebook but hey we cant all be 20 something year olds with multi-billion dollar companies....
Dirty Harry (1971)
This movie is truly a Hollywood classic, it show cases the best that 1970's San Franscisco has to offer. With Classic cars, long forgotten slang and fashion that will nock your socks off (Flares, Afros, Turtle necks, Male shovernisim, what would you expect!!!!), all set against the backdrop of a long forgotten time.
The basic plot of this movie involves the very sickening chase for a serial murderer nicknamed the "scorpio" whom kills women in the most gruesom of ways whom leaves gruesom clues for Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwoods character) at every crime scene, the first clue being along the lines of my next victim will be a catholic priest or a worse. ( I know, this movie is not for a young audience).
The cinematics and the way this movie is shot and acted just isnt done in this day and age, it is an older classic style of acting that a younger audience namely Generation Y would not be familiar with, it's a style that is very straight forward and predictable but it is delivered in such a way that it evokes so much emotion that the fact the movie is 40 years old it still stands the test of time and holds up really well, it keeps you guessing untill the end.
The first Dirty Harry movie is perhaps best known for the following scene with Clint Eastwood standing over a scared punk that has just robbed a diner:
"I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

This no noncense straight talking style of acting which Clint Eastwood pulls off so well in Dirty Harry really gives the movie as potrayed in the above scene a dark air, with an undertone of humour. Although we know as the audience that Harry Callaghan, played by Clint eastwood, has a skewed moral compass we end up really enjoying him nail the bad guys, in Clint Eastwood style.
Genre: Crime Thriller (at times can also be a bit of a physological thriller)
Cinematics: old school
Overall rating: Not for the faint hearted ( But this is my kinda movie!! and definately not for a younger audience)
Rio - just another animated movie
Rio is about Blu, a macaw who is the last male left of its species. He meets the bird of his dreams Jewel and together they take off on an adventure in Rio de Janeiro. The movie is from the creators of Ice age and has topped the box office at number one with $40M, beating scream 4, Hop, Soul surfer and Hanna. The movie has created such a big hype because of the excellent graphics and 3D outlook of the movie, which shows Rio de Janeiro as such a breathtaking and beautiful place. In interviews about the movie it is said that the directors and artists have captured Rio de Janeiro exactly how it is for real which is why it is such a good display for people who have never been to Brazil.
Never let me go.... never let me go see it on a bad day
Never Let Me Go (2010)
Wow... well wasn't this a depressing little fink! Based on the sci-fi novel by the same name, written by Japanese-born British author Kazuo Ishiguro this film is not exactly on the lighter side of the movie spectrum. I think the end quote of the film really sums up the whole mood of it- "We all complete. Maybe none of us really understand what we've lived through or feel we've had enough time." The basic idea of the film is that doctors have begun creating children purely for the purpose of them becoming organ donors once their bodies have matured. These children have been conditioned to believe that this is normal and there is no way out of it. They are told that they will get to a certain age then begin donating their vital organs. They will most likely only last two or three of these operations before they "complete".
I found the film frustrating because the whole time the only thing stopping these children from running away and living a normal life is an electric bracelet that they have to tag in with. While the main focus is on the love triangle between the main characters, the main essence of the film is if you knew you would die young, how much would you get out of life? I found it kind of preachy but otherwise interesting.
I'd say go watch this film but it comes with a warning- ITS REALLY DEPRESSING!!!!!!!!!!
Paul
From the makers of Hot Fuzz, Shaun Of The Dead, writers Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have created a seriously funny movie. Not only have they written a brilliant script but they manage to star in the movie as the two main characters and pull it off convincingly.
The Plot is typical of a simon Pegg and Nick Frost script with the two of them seemingly being pitted against unbelievably unbeatable odds but somehow manage to defeat their rivals with humourus ease. The plot involves Graeme Willey, played by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, played by Clive Gollings, two nerdy comic book fanatics who arrive from England for the annual comicon festival.
All seems to be going well for the two sci- fi nerds when suddenly on a dark mysterous highway outside of area 51 the ultimate sci -fi trip of a lifetime takes an unbelievable turn for the worst when they encounter Paul. Well a very interesting and very human like alien. Who is voiced by the very funny and very talented Seth Rogen.
To not spoil the plot for budding fans of Simon Pegg and Nick frost who are eagerly awaiting to see these two very likeable english gentlemen on screen doing their thing, the film is a must see. All the way through the film the audience in the theatre really got behind the main characters especially the pubescent kids in the back row.
Characterisation: Fantastic (You really feel involved in the lives of these two guys as they are so believable)
Plot: Very unpredictable (Massive twist at the end, Spoiler alert !!!)
Script: Very funny lines (Simon clegg and clive Cogglins have done a brilliant plot with comic timing, works really well)
Overall Rating: A must see (Feel good movie)
Just Go with It - More than expected
Yes Adam Sandler is back with another Happy Madison production ‘Just go with it’. The plot is about a guy faking a family to get the approval of the girl he really likes. The main character ‘Danny’ is played by Adam Sandler along with other actors like Jennifer Aniston and Brooklyn Decker. In an interview Adam Sandler said that both he and Jennifer Aniston are childhood friends and had been planning to do a movie together for a long time. Now finally they come together in this movie and have done an awesome job in playing their respective characters. Brooklyn Decker being a swimsuit model also has played her character well. Looks like those acting classes in her early years paid off.
Due Date worth a watch
So after my brother convinced me that it was going to be just about the funniest thing since the hangover, I watched Due Date.
I figured if its from the same director and has what I believed to be the best character from it then how could it not be funny. I was right! While Robert Downy Jr. is okay as the uptight Peter Highman, again the show is stollen Zach Galifianakis. Galifianakis's character Ethan is very much a replica of his hangover character however it still works. My only issue with this is I guess my issue with the hangover, its basically just a series of kinda funny scenes, one after the other. Your not drawn into the basic plot at all, your just waiting to see what funny thing Galifianakis will do next.
If you found Galifianakis funny in the hangover then this is worth a watch. Although I wouldn't be rushing out any time soon, its more of a watch it because its on TV kind of movie.
